Expand on the current Economic Development programs:

I will immediately begin the process of locating financial institutions who will partner with the state in an effort to revive local economies in the state of Illinois.

The Illinois Link Deposit Program was initiated to help stimulate economic development in underserved communities around the state. This program has had some success, but its full potential has never been realized.

Micro-development is one of the best proven methods for building sustainable economic infrastructure, and I will begin immediately to identify banks who will be willing participants in this effort to revive local economies throughout the state.

Small business has been the economic engine of this country, and the Link Deposit Program should be creating hundreds, if not thousands, of good paying jobs every year. With the full faith and credit of the Illinois Treasurer’s office behind every bank willing to do its part, we can make this program a model for responsible, socially conscious investment.

Each year, I will set a goal to fund a targeted number of projects through this program, and see that a balanced, comprehensive and fiscally sound and prudent philosophy drives the investments across the state.
