As a child of a single mother growing up on the North Side of Chicago, life was never easy.
The death of my father when I was 11 left my mother with four children in grade school and two sons in the military at the height of the Viet Nam War. I attended St. Patrick’s High School for boys, sweeping floors and cleaning erasers every day to fulfill my work scholarship requirement. I was fortunate to be awarded an athletic scholarship to attend Illinois Benedictine College in Lisle, Illinois.
After spending 7 years in the financial sector down in Houston, Texas, I was compelled by a desire to have a greater impact on those around me, so I moved back to Chicago to work within the Issues Staff of Illinois Speaker of the House, Michael J.Madigan.
In that capacity, I witnessed first-hand the inner workings of politics and government: how liaisons are formed, legislation is passed, dollars are spent, and how to provide for constituents.
There is cynicism about politics, deservedly so in a state awash in corruption. But I have seen the honest side of politics and have been fortunate to have known, worked with and learned from some of the brightest minds in public service. Being one of the first people to travel with Governor Bill Clinton as he began his quest for the Presidency, and later Joe Biden in his run for President and nomination as Vice-President, I watched both men use their experiences and personal tragedies to create meaningful careers that transformed the lives of millions of Americans for the better.
I have a deep passion for the state of Illinois and its people. I have spent years in business endeavors across the country and the world, but I always come back home to Illinois. My family, my friends, and my heart are here, and I see great hope and potential in Illinois government.
I am running for State Treasurer because I believe there is much work that needs to be done. If elected, I will ensure that the dollars you, the taxpayer, have deposited with the state are invested in the most efficient, economical and innovative ways.
Please join me in this campaign to be your next State Treasurer. Sign up for the email list and get regular updates on the campaign. Feel free to email me if you have any questions or concerns. I would love to hear from you. I want the opportunity to work for you.
Sincerely,
Mark Doyle
