Collect the $5 billion in past due receivables:
I will work with state of Illinois financial offices to collect money that is owed to the state from various pools of taxes.
Every year, the Comptroller’s office for the state of Illinois issues its annual report highlighting the outstanding balances owed to the taxpayers. These receivables are uncollected taxes and corporate tax responsibilities that have been evaded. It is unconscionable that we let this number continue to grow at such an alarming rate without taking drastic measures to collect these monies.
A targeted, highly sophisticated effort in conjunction with the Illinois Department of Revenue should commence immediately to employ, monetize and aggressively pursue all methods to collect these receivables. In many cases, the receivables are corporate taxes that arose because corporations made a profit and then refused to pay their taxes. Individuals must pay their taxes, and this behavior will not be tolerated from corporations.
Illinois needs to get serious about collecting their receivables so the money can be returned to the General Revenue fund and be used to fund social programs, the Capital Bill, jobs programs, other worthwhile state programs and to help bring this state’s books back into balance. |
